MIRPUR (AJK): The Muslim Hands, AJK branch of the UK-based international charity, and the state-run Mangla Dam Housing Authority (MDHA) have launched the “Cleanliness Campaign 2025, Make New Mirpur-AJK City Clean” to make New Mirpur City clean.
The event was attended by the Muslim Hands Mirpur AJK team led by MDHA Housing and Administration Chairman Amjad Iqbal, MDHA officials and District Chairman Muhammad Suleman to address the issue of cleanliness and sanitation, improve the cleanliness of the city and the overall quality of life. The partnership will cover six districts (six wards under the local government) of the city.
The key objectives include clearing of 13 dumpsites, cleaning garbage, beautifying the central streets, renovating five town squares, pruning branches, painting trees planted by Muslim Hands as part of the environmental project, and spraying weeds and plants.
The campaign aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Sustainable Cities and Communities, Climate Action, and Partnership for the Goals. The campaign will improve air and water quality, reduce pollution and slow down climate change by cleaning up 13 dumpsites and promoting proper waste management.
These benefits will impact community health and increase community satisfaction. Before the campaign, a suitable disposal site was prepared outside the community and waste will be disposed of using scientific methods.
Mirpur city
Mirpur, also known as New Mirpur City, is the capital of Mirpur District. Mirpur is the second largest city in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and the 74th largest city in Pakistan. It was established in the early 1960s.
New Mirpur City is a place where modern life is set right near traditional religious social standards. Modern European community members live side by side with the local population. Mirpur is an industrial city, with a few very good educational establishments and plenty of landmarks, mainly of religious importance.
