Annual Urs of Baba Peera Shah Ghazi begins in Mirpur on 12th

MIRPUR (AJK): The two-day Urs of eminent saint and preacher of Islam in the subcontinent region, Baba Peera Shah Ghazi, will begin on February 12 at his shrine in Khari Sharif, Mirpur district with great respect and religious fervor.

According to the locals, the Urs is one of the most popular and revered events in the region which attracts thousands of devotees from across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Pakistan each year.

The Urs of the saint, also known as Damri Wali Sarkar, is likely to be inaugurated by AJK Prime Minister Ch. Anwar ul Haq. The ritual of ablution of the saint’s mausoleum will mark the start of the proceedings.

The devotees, coming from various areas across the AJK, and Pakistan will offer prayers and pay homage to the saint, who is credited with spreading the message of Islam and peace in the region along with his associate Auliya Karam.

Various cultural and religious activities including naat recitations, speeches by eminent scholars, and mystic poetry by famous poet and saint Hazrat Mian Muhammad Buksh (RA), will be part of the proceedings. Hazrat Mian Muhammad Buksh (RA) was also a disciple of Baba Peera Shah Ghazi.

The annual Urs will conclude on February 13 with a special prayer for the security and prosperity of Pakistan, unity and solidarity of the Muslim ummah, and the success of the Kashmir freedom movement.

Mirpur’s attraction

The authorities have made special arrangements to facilitate the pilgrims converging on Mirpur. Special measures have been taken at the government and Auqaf administration level to ensure safety and comfort of the visitors. Local holiday would be declared on the occasion in Mirpur district on February 12 for the convenience of the visitors. The devotees will be served with food during the three days.

During the two-day celebrations, pilgrims from different parts of the country lay floral wreaths at the Mazar and pray for the prosperity, stability, integrity and solidarity of Pakistan.
