WEB DESK: Instagram, the photo and video-sharing application, has recently announced new updates for users, including increasing the duration of Reels to 3 minutes.
Instagram previously allowed Reels to be up to 90 seconds. The new update has doubled the time, similar to YouTube Shorts.
Previously, reels were capped at 90 seconds, but now users can upload videos up to three minutes long.
“The announcement was made by Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram. ‘You can now upload Reels up to three minutes long. We’ve historically only allowed Reels up to 90 seconds, given our focus on short-form video, but we’ve heard the feedback that this is just too short for those who want to share longer stories. Hope this helps,’ read the caption of his video announcement.”
In the video, he said that they have received feedback from creators that the ’90 seconds’ limit is too short and that he hopes increasing the duration of the videos will help creators to “tell the stories” they want.
This is not the only major update Instagram has rolled out this month. Earlier, a major update that is not being praised by users is changing the image size of the grid photos from square to Reels-like size. Some have even called the new updates of Instagram an attempt to be like “TikTok.”
Donald Trump’s statement on TikTok ban
Tech experts are of the view that Instagram’s new updates are because TikTok is set to be banned in the US from Sunday, and with the recent updates, it could attract more users in the US.
However, the newly elected US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he will give executive orders to restore the app.
