BHIMBER (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, has renewed his government’s commitment to anti-corruption drive and reforms with the announcement of a grand operation against electricity theft soon while inaugurating the Bhimber Electric Operation Division 2, he said mafias are feeling the pressure because accountability measures have tightened.
PM AJK praised Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, for his firm stance on Kashmir, reiterating that Pakistan has already fought three wars and is prepared for more if needed. He expressed confidence that Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir would soon be free, completing Pakistan’s vision.
Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq said his government was committed to public welfare. He claimed to work 18 to 20 hours a day for the people. He cited historic subsidies on electricity and flour, which have greatly benefited citizens. He also introduced the Social Protection Welfare Programme, ensuring financial assistance for the underprivileged.
Recruitments were done purely on merit through NTS and PSC during his tenure, besides introducing biometric attendance systems for government employees. Crack was brought among the tax evaders, timber mafias, and those involved in cigarette smuggling rings. Zakat funds were further allocated by the government, Bhimber University had been established, and 200 free electricity units were given to mosques which saw more transparency and progress.
Haq said that his war against nepotism and favouritism has annoyed many, but he continues rationalising systems and promoting fair governance. He said that development projects in Azad Kashmir, including Bhimber, are being done without any discrimination.
Announcing the grand operation against electricity theft, he warned that strict action would be taken against offenders. He also revealed plans to enhance the power department’s efficiency and reduce the electricity load in Bhimber. The Samhani feeder will be completed before Ramadan, ensuring improved power distribution.
He concluded his speech by calling the public to inform on the incidences of electricity theft and to chant slogans supporting the Kashmir freedom movement.
