JEDDAH (Kashmir English): The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed its full support to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their quest for the right to self-determination.

On the Kashmir Solidarity Day, the General Secretariat asked India to revoke all illegal measures initiated on August 5, 2019, which, it said, aimed to change the demographic structure of the disputed territory.

Referring to the decisions and resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on Jammu and Kashmir, the General Secretariat urged the world community to enhance its efforts to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UNSC resolutions.

Meanwhile, Turkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu expressed his country’s unwavering support to the resolution of Kashmir issue, believing it was essential for regional peace.

“We reaffirm our unwavering support to resolution of Kashmir issue on the basis of justice,” he said in his message on Kashmir Solidarity Day.

UN resolutions on Kashmir

The ambassador called for resolution of the Kashmir issue within the framework of the UN resolutions and in line with the aspiration of Kashmiri people. He also stressed that resolution of Kashmir issue was key to stability and peace in the region.

Furthermore, Pakistan’s UN envoy Munir Akram met with his Chinese counterpart Fu Cong, who is also the President of United Nations Security Council for the month of February, to hand over a letter from Deputy Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed around the globe.

In the letter, Dar drew the UNSC’s attention to the grave human rights violations in the Indian Illegally-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir at the hands of the Indian occupation forces. He urged the Council members to take decisive steps to ensure the implementation of its own resolutions that pledged the right of self-determination to Kashmiri people.

The letter also called — without any further delay — for an end to the human rights violations in IIOJK. The letter was also copied to the President of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang and the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
