Harsh weather in Azad Kashmir amid fresh snowfall

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Snowfall continues across various regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), intensifying the cold. Light rain was recorded early in the morning in areas such as Haveli Kahuta, Jhelum Valley, Leepa Valley, Muzaffarabad, and surrounding regions, while fresh snowfall has begun in the mountains turning the weather in Azad Kashmir harsh. Tourist destinations like Toli Peer, Lasdanna, and Haji Peer are also experiencing snowfall, making the weather more picturesque.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Weather Update for Tuesday, February 11, 2025, shows that the weather is expected to be mostly cloudy and hazy with steady light rains.

Azad Kashmir faces steady light rain this morning, with showers continuing into this afternoon. The weather is hazy, with a high of 59F. Winds are WSW at 5 to 10 mph. The chance of rain is 80 per cent. For the night, the weather is expected to be mostly clear, with the low near 40F. Winds are light and variable.

In the Neelum valley, this morning gave a mixture of snow and rain into the afternoon with a high near 40F. The winds light and variable and the chance of rain stands at a whopping 100 per cent. Similarly, snow this evening will give way to lingering snow showers late, with low 24F. The winds will be light and variable, with the chance of snow 80 per cent. Snow accumulations are expected to be less than one inch.

Due to heavy snowfall, roads leading to Toli Peer and Lasdanna have been closed. However, the Highway Department has started work to restore access. Other roads remain open for traffic, but residents and tourists have been advised to exercise caution.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy snowfall is expected throughout the day in the mountains of Leepa Valley, which may cause travel difficulties. Meanwhile, Muzaffarabad and nearby areas will experience cloudy weather with cold winds

Residents are advised to wear warm clothing and avoid unnecessary travel. Due to snowfall, roads in upper areas may become slippery, so drivers are urged to be cautious. The Highway Department is actively working to restore affected roads and reopen them for traffic as soon as possible.
